County Government Report
Summarizes Current Debt

Caroline County Administrator Percy Ashcraft has released a report that summarizes the current debt for the local government.

The "Debt Summary" compiles the amount of current debt still owed by Caroline County through March 31, 2010. The report also contains a list of projects dating back to 1990 in which money was borrowed to construct, renovate or purchase new equipment.

"This report concisely summarizes the amount of money still owed by the County as of March 31, 2010," commented Ashcraft. "The report also shows what projects were funded with the money borrowed."

Total County debt as of March 31 is $89,210,717. Debt service for school projects is 37.7 percent of the debt, or $33,650,996. General government debt is 35.8 percent of the debt, or $31,951,457, and Utility debt is 26.4 percent, or $23,608.264. Ashcraft has proposed in the FY 2011 budget to the Board of Supervisors that $6,646,014 be set aside for debt service to pay for various projects.

"There has been much said and written about the County's debt during this year's budget process," Ashcraft said. "Now seemed like a good time to accumulate the data and bring all the numbers together into one document."
