From The Caroline Progress
The Germanna Community College Center for Workforce & Community Education will host an Intelligence and Homeland Security Summit from 8:30 a.m. to noon on December 1 at Fredericksburg Square in downtown Fredericksburg. Featured will be recently retired senior executives from the Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency, Secret Service, National Reconnaissance Office and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. The summit will also include private contractors who work with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the intelligence community.
Attendees will learn about thousands of current job openings and business opportunities in homeland security and the intelligence community and how to pursue those jobs and business opportunities most effectively. The conference will feature a panel discussion and question and answer session providing an insider's perspective on the intelligence community and DHS and how private industry serves them. It will provide a nuanced look at what the agencies do and how they do it, and the career and business opportunities they offer. That will be followed by breakout sessions on the intelligence community, the Department of Homeland Security, law enforcement and information technology. "We're excited to have such a group of broadly experienced, distinguished experts for the summit," said Dr. Jeanne Wesley, Vice President for Workforce & Community Relations at GCC. "Germanna's Center for Workforce already offers many of the courses and certifications needed for an entry level job, career switch or career advancement in intelligence and homeland security," she noted. GCC also offers a police science degree and other information technology degrees that could lead to homeland security jobs, Wesley added.
The panel will be moderated by Robert Zitz, a Fredericksburg native and 1974 James Monroe High School graduate who is a former deputy under secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He is also a former deputy associate director of the Secret Service, and he has held senior positions in the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, the National Reconnaissance Office, and Army intelligence. Zitz has offered to provide personal guidance to attendees beyond the summit as they apply for jobs in the intelligence community and at DHS.
Seats are $20 and are limited. GCC students with student ID will be admitted free, but must make reservations. For reservations, call (540) 891-3012. Fredericksburg Square is located at 525 Caroline St.
