SCC Orders Ladysmith Water
To Pay Additional Amount
On March 16, 2010, the State Corporation Commission ordered the Ladysmith Water Company to pay Caroline County $19,949.80 towards remaining outstanding charges for water service, and to pay all future bills on time.
The County has provided potable water to the Company to serve the residents of the Lake Caroline community since April 2009. After the Company stopped paying the County in September, 2009, the County notified the Company on February 22, 2010, that it would terminate service.
An Emergency Hearing was held on March 1, 2010, after which the Commission ordered the Company to pay the County of $75,000, by Wednesday, March 3, 2010, or face further Commission action.
That payment was timely made by the Company. The Commission’s most recent order directs that the $19,949.80 must be paid by April 15, 2010. If paid, the total amount received by the County under the Commission’s directives would be close to $95,000. The County is hopeful that it will be able to resolve all remaining payment issues with the Company.
