VDOT WILL IMPROVE BRIDGE ON ROUTE 607 (GUINEA STATION ROAD) IN CAROLINE COUNTY

Guinea Station Rd. will be closed to through traffic for two weeks starting Tuesday, Feb. 21

FREDERICKSBURG  – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will soon begin work to improve the condition of a structurally deficient bridge over a stream on Route 607 (Guinea Station Road) in Caroline County.

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, Guinea Station Road will be closed to through traffic at the bridge beginning at 9 a.m. The bridge is located one mile north of Route 606 (Stonewall Jackson Road) and one mile south of Route 660 (Claiborne Crossing Road) in the Woodford area of the county.

A detour will be in place for approximately two weeks, weather permitting, while construction is underway.

Signs will be posted along the recommended detour route, which is approximately nine miles:

  • Route 634 (Flippo Drive)
  • Route 608 (Massaponax Church Road)
  • Route 668 (Summit Crossing Road)
  • Route 609 (Macedonia Road)
  • Route 606 (Stonewall Jackson Road)

Message boards will be posted this week to alert drivers to the upcoming bridge work and detour.

VDOT crews will begin by making substructure repairs to the existing abutments and wing walls. Then, crews will replace the existing bridge’s steel beams, deck with new timber, steel and guardrail.

The existing bridge, constructed in 1976, has a posted weight restriction of 22 tons for tractor trailers. Following final inspection, the bridge’s current weight posting is expected to be removed.

Guinea Station Road carries an average of 260 vehicles a day, according to a 2015 VDOT traffic count.
