The Caroline County Junior and Senior Beta Clubs gave a presentation and were recognized at the July 11 Board of Supervisors Meeting. Junior Beta Club Sponsor, Tamara Feggans, and Senior Beta Club Sponsor, Patty Kline gave the presentation. The Junior Clubs include grades 5-8. The Senior Club encompasses grades 9-12, hence there are 4 Jr clubs and 1 Sr club representing Caroline County. The Caroline County Junior Betas attended the National Junior Beta Convention in Orlando, Florida in June and earned four awards. For the first time ever, Caroline County was represented by all three elementary schools, as well as the middle school at this convention. A team of forty-two Caroline representatives, including twenty-one state Beta champions participated in the four-day convention. Students participated in individual, team, and club competitions during this year’s annual event. Sabian Rollins from Bowling Green Elementary brought home two visual arts awards. His charcoal drawing of a barn owl earned him a fifth-place award, while his metal forged cuff bracelet and pendant set scored second in the nation for handmade jewelry. Michael Hayden from Lewis and Clark Elementary was declared the National Champion in Social Studies, showing that Caroline students are among the best in the country academically! Bowling Green Elementary was declared the National Runner-Up, earning a second-place award for their Spotlight Your Club board. This board outlined the service projects completed by the Bowling Green Elementary Junior Beta Club for the past year. Overall, Caroline students excelled in all areas of the convention, through visual arts, academics, and service, and their sponsors couldn’t be prouder of each and every competitor!
This year, the National Beta Club Council recognized Caroline High School for its' 20 years of active service. We are very proud of the fact that our Charter has been active for that many years! This year, 14 young people qualified to compete at the national level at either the Virginia Beta Leadership Conference or the Virginia State Senior Beta Convention. An additional 8 students competed at National's only pilot competitions.
Caroline's national winners were:

Also at the July 11 BOS Meeting, Bob Fiumara was recognized for service on the Planning Commission. Mr. Fiumara is moving out of the County after service for over five years as the Western Caroline District representative to the Planning Commission. He was always thorough in his approach to issues before the planning commission, never missed meetings and was well respected among his peers on the commission. Good luck in the future, Bob! Thanks for your hard work and dedication to Caroline County!
