FRED Transit System Begins Revised Bus Routes in Caroline County

Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FRED) has implemented changes to its bus routes in

Caroline County effective July 2, 2018.  The changes are based on recommendations

from a transit study funded through the Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning

Organization (FAMPO) and are designed to better match service to demand, reduce the

previous mid-day gap in service and begin providing service to the VRE train station in

Spotsylvania.

The Caroline County Board of Supervisors approved the route and schedule changes

following a public hearing at its May 8, 2018 meeting.  No additional local funds will be

needed to implement the improvements.

In the past few weeks, FRED kicked off marketing efforts for the new route changes

with postcards mailed to county residents and notice in The Free Lance-Star

newspaper.  The June 28th edition of the newspaper also featured a brief article on the

route changes.  New schedules have also been placed at the Community

Services Center, library branches, the YMCA and shopping centers along the route.

VRE will post the new schedule at the station and put out a notification through Train

Talk, social media accounts, and on the VRE website.  An article in the VRE onboard

magazine RIDE is also planned.
