FIRST HALF 2020 REAL ESTATE AND PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX BILLS
May 8, 2020
Elizabeth B. Curran, Treasurer
The Treasurer’s office has received numerous calls from taxpayers that have not received their first half tax bills. The real estate tax bills were delivered to the post office May 7 by our mailing contractor so they should be received shortly. The personal property tax bills should be mailed next week. However, information, including amount due, for tax bills is available on the county website, www.co.caroline.va.us.
The Board of Supervisors has extended the deadline for 2020 first half tax payments by ten days to June 15 in response to the COVID-19 related downturn in the economy. In addition, no interest will be applied to late payments received by July 15, 2020. Following this date interest on late payments will return to 10% per year (or 0.8% per month). No penalties will be applied to late payments received by August 15, 2020.
Although, the county buildings are not currently open to the public, there are other ways to pay your bill. We have a drop box outside the County Administration building that is a checked periodically throughout the day, payments can be mailed via the USPS, or paid online. We are now accepting e-checks for payments on our website. There is no additional fee for e-checks. For a complete list of ways to pay, please see the Treasurer’s Office FAQ.
Taxpayers with questions about first half real estate and personal property tax payments should contact Treasurer Elizabeth Curran by email or by phone at 804-633-5291.
