For immediate release
December 9, 2020
Charles M. Culley, Jr.
REQUIREMENT TO FILE LISTING OF ALL TAXABLE PERSONAL PROPERTY WITH COMMISSIONER OF REVENUE’S OFFICE BY FEBRUARY 1 ELIMINATED FOR 2021
Filing of Business Personal Property and Machinery & Tools Still Required
At its December 8, 2020 meeting, the Caroline County Board of Supervisors adopted an emergency ordinance to amend the Code of Caroline County to temporarily remove the requirement for the filing of personal property declarations by individuals by February 1. This ordinance amendment applies only to individual personal property declarations, and does not apply to the filing of businesses personal property or to machinery and tools. The emergency ordinance terminates as of December 31, 2021.
This is a calendar year 2021 only measure taken as a result of the health hazard created by the COVID 19 pandemic, the Governor’s emergency orders relating to social distancing, and the need to reduce foot traffic at the Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue during this time.
Documentation to apply for a high mileage discount will still be accepted. In order to apply, please submit a copy of your state inspection report, oil change record, or receipt for repair on business letterhead which shows the make, model, year, VIN, and the documented mileage of the vehicle. Submitted documentation must be dated on or before January 1st, 2021 in order to apply for tax year 2021. Documentation may be emailed, faxed (804-633-3480), or mailed (P.O. Box 819, Bowling Green, VA 22427).
Questions regarding this action should be directed to the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office at (804)-633-4055 or by email.
