CAROLINE COUNTY PRESS RELEASE

January 7, 2022

CAROLINE COUNTY HAS DECLARED A “STORM DEBRIS EMERGENCY”

Deadline to dispose of storm debris has been extended to January 31, 2022.

Due to the significant amount of downed trees from the January 3, 2022 winter weather event, the Fire Chief along with County Administration has declared a “Storm Debris Emergency” as per the Storm Debris Policy adopted August 26, 2014. This policy allows citizens of Caroline County as well as contractors to dispose of storm debris free of charge. Storm debris is defined as trees, branches, brush, and leaves. Stumps are not accepted. Staff have been alerted to this action and are prepared to handle the increased volume of storm debris.

As a reminder, the only site that accepts storm debris is the Bowling Green Convenience Site (Old Landfill), located at 18280 Lakewood Road, Bowling Green, Va. 22427.

Caroline County and its residents are recovering from Snow Storm Frida that moved through the County Monday morning, January 3rd.  This storm impacted the entire County, coating everything in its path with a blanket of heavy wet snow.

The County experienced down trees and power outages during this storm. The Caroline County Department of Fire and Rescue spent a significant amount of time throughout the event cutting trees, removing debris and opening roadways.

Caroline County has declared a “Storm Debris Emergency” due to the significant amount of storm debris. This declaration will allow County residents and contractors to dispose of storm debris at the Bowling Green Solid Waste Convenience Site during normal business hours at no charge.

Storm debris is defined as trees, branches, brush and leaves.  Stumps are not accepted.

County residents will be allowed to dispose of storm debris through January 17, 2022.  Deadline to dispose of storm debris has been extended to January 31, 2022.
